There have been many times that I wished that my physician would use email. A routine question – should I even come in? – prescription refills, “it’s going around”, and so on are all interactions that could be handled quickly and accurately using that wonderful invention: email.
A recent article in the Business Journal of Jacksonville tells of a Blue Cross of Florida test in the Jacksonville area. BCF reimburses at about half of the standard office rate. Many of the emails are routine communication which would otherwise be phone calls, such as prescription refills and appointments.
I am a big believer in using the Internet for communication. It leave a “paper” trail, it’s faster for many routine transactions and it works well in an asynchronous mode. One more tool to speed up the back office and deliver more to patients.
