Now that I’m out of college and traveling a lot smarter, I have had a litany of inoculations against a world of diseases. There’s still no shot for coral poisoning though, just a list of ways to clean the putrid discharge from the wound and some pills to quell the vomiting).
Inoculations are readily available for travelers who would prefer to avoid a lot of the earth’s nastier diseases. Hepatitis A, B come to mind, as do Typhus, Meningeococcal strains, and African Sleeping Sickness to name some others. There are countless websites out there to help you as well.

Travel clinics specialize in vaccinations against most diseases that you may encounter, and they will give you a yellow World Health “International Certificate of Vaccination” that you can tuck into your passport. Good travel clinics will assess your health and give you a full range of vaccinations in one visit. Your butt will look and feel like a pin cushion, but isn’t that better than the bleeding cavity leakage that comes with African sleeping sickness? I’m just saying…
