I see a personal first aid kit as an essential travel item as you never know when you will have a cut, burn, splinter, headache, ankle sprain or worse. There may not be drug stores or pharmacies nearby and you may not in fact have time if you are rushing off to a meeting when "it´ happens.
Some items you may wish to include in your travel first aid kit:
Anti-bacterial gel for handwashing without water
Ointment for insect bites and sunburn
Adhesive bandages in various sizes, adhesive tape and gauze pads
Premoistened towelettes (make your own by putting paper towels in a weak solution of mild dish soap and water)
Cough medicine and/or throat lozenges
Tweezers and needle (for removing splinters)
Moleskin in case of blisters
Don´t forget to have regular medical check ups if you travel frequently. Checking your weight, blood pressure and cholesterol levels regularly.
