CEOs and thought leaders will gather at the University of Miami Jan. 15 and 16, 2009, to address the nation’s financial crisis, energy demand, health care and the environment.
Among the speakers will be Jack Welch, former CEO of General Electric Co.; Donna E. Shalala, president of the University of Miami and former U.S. Secretary of Health and Human Services; and Michael L. Ducker, president, International, of FedEx Express. That’s just to name three.
“As the world continues to shrink,” Shalala said, “the opportunities to become a player in the global arena increase.”
The University of Miami Global Business Forum will be presented by the John S. And James L. Knight Foundation and held at the university’s main campus in Coral Gables.
With a new administration that says it will listen to ideas from diverse sources about to take office in Washington, a gathering of top business leaders who might come up with some useful notions seems to be a sound plan.
This country can use all the help it can get right now.
I think community-level business leaders would be wise to schedule similar conferences in their states and towns. Who knows what brilliance might evolve? No problem ever gets solved without people putting their minds to it.
