It’s been less than two years since Google Android phones hit the market, but the Droid has already acquired an impressive gathering of loyal followers. This new kid on the block continues to impress with a host of business applications designed to make your workday easier. Here are five business apps for Android that every busy professional should have.
Company: Dropbox, Inc.
Keep your head, and hand, in the cloud with Dropbox, a highly useful application that synchronizes your computer and Android into one seamless entity. Dropbox is a cloud-storage service that lets you sync, share, and back up files for easy access at the office or on the go. Shared folders allow several coworkers to collaborate on a set of files, and any changes are nearly instantaneously synced to your PC and Android, so you always have the most updated version. Dropbox is free for 2 gigabytes of storage space and can be upgraded up to 100GB for $19.99 a month.
Company: MightyMeeting, Inc.
Your Android becomes a powerful presentation tool in the hands of MightyMeeting. Conduct PowerPoint presentations directly on your Droid or remotely control a presentation in the cloud. Invite people to join your presentation online and they’ll be able to view it as you control it. Flip to the next slide on your Droid and the change will be made on the screens of everyone else you’re presenting to. You can even talk to viewers during the presentation through a simultaneous voice call or chat function.
Company: Toodoroo, Inc.
Type A and type B personalities alike will dig this app. Whether you thrive on structure or need a helpful kick in the pants, Astrid will help you get things done. This helpful app is like a to-do list on steroids; easily create tasks that you can group by project, tag, and filter, delegate to others, set reminders for, and more. It’s like having a personal assistant in your pocket.
Company: Byte Squared
Spreadsheets are a necessary evil in the business world, so it’s nice when an application makes them less painful. Byte Squared’s Spreadsheet lets you create professional looking spreadsheets right on your Droid. It looks and feels like Excel, with cells that are easy to format and maneuver around. Export Spreadsheet files created on Droid to your PC or Mac, or import XLS spreadsheet files to your Droid so that they’re always at your fingertips.
- Scan2PDF Mobile
This last business app is a bit pricey, but it may be worth it if you’re constantly finding yourself in need of a photocopier or scanner on the road. Scan2PDF Mobile lets you create PDF files on the fly with a snap of a picture. Simply point your Droid at the document, click “Scan Page,” and you’ve created a PDF file that can be saved or e-mailed directly to or from your phone. It even lets you “scan” multiple documents before creating a PDF so that you don’t have multiple PDF files to mess with.
