I came across an interesting article on cnn.com today: The Top 10 Best Jobs in America (http://money.cnn.com/magazines/moneymag/bestjobs/?cnn=yes). MONEY Magazine and Salary.com took a look at careers and rated them on both the salary and the job prospects in each field. Making the top ten list were college professor, financial adviser, and, at number one, software engineer.
I´ve always been interested in exploring various careers. I could have been a professional college student had I not worn out my welcome at the counselor´s office; she became sick of seeing me after I changed my major for the tenth or twelfth time. I wanted to be a veterinarian, a journalist, a computer programmer, a doctor and a special education teacher, which, eventually, I did accomplish.
Ironically, none of these made the top ten.
Perhaps some of you are considering a career change now that you are mothers. Maybe you want to make more money or have more flexibility in scheduling. If so, take a look at the rankings and see if any of these choices suit you. By clicking on the job title, you can access information such as a job description, average annual job openings, a rating card for criteria such as stress level and flexibility, and information about the education needed for each career.
Additional statistics for 166 job titles are listed here http://money.cnn.com/magazines/moneymag/bestjobs/other_jobs/index.html
