In the course of running your home-based business, have you ever noticed that sometimes you seem to be spending a long time on a particular activity? I have. On one of our websites, I seem to spend a lot of time adding new product (not to mention removing discontinued products).
Yesterday, I had 6 new products to add from a drop ship vendor for this site (you can read more about how drop shipping is used in a home-based business in Jump Start your Home Business with Real Drop Shipping, Drop Ship Scams, and Leveraging Multiple Drop Ship Suppliers). I challenged myself to set the timer to see how long this would take. It took about 80 minutes to add those 6 products. Much of that time was spent clicking and moving from one screen to another. ‘Ouch – that’s too much time’ I thought to myself.
Things like this cause me to wonder if there is a better way (other than paying someone to do it). In this case, there is. The web hosting system for this site has a data import product which I have resisted in the past because it costs an extra $20 per month. How foolish of me!
As we grow this particular product line, it will have more and more turnover and it simply will take too much time to add each product individually. So the $20 per month will be just a drop in the bucket – a no brainer. It won’t eliminate all the work, but it will streamline the work significantly.
So if you suspect something is eating up significant amounts of your time, try turning on your timer for a reality check.
