I’d need way more fingers than I have to count the number of podcasts I’ve tried to listen to that are a waste of time. Can you say b-o-r-i-n-g and u-s-e-l-e-s-s? Yawn…
So what’s the secret to making sure your target market finds the podcast you’ve invested so much time and energy into irresistible? Here are the top three.
- Focus on a specific topic. Think sound bite. Give your audience a specific, actionable tip that they can put to work right now. Brainstorm a list of micro topics that your audience wants to know about. Make each topic a podcast.
- Prepare ahead of time. The best podcasts sound like they are “off the cuff” but rest assured there is plenty of preparation that goes into them beforehand. Script out what you want to say. Rehearse so it doesn’t sound scripted. It will help you focus your thoughts so you can get the right point across in a minimum amount of time without a bunch of ums and ahhs.
- Keep it short and to the point. Five minutes (or less) is an optimum amount of time for a podcast. It’s long enough to get your succinct thoughts across to your audience and short enough that they won’t lose interest. And don’t forget to end by reminding them to take action. That’s the step a lot of people forget.
What do you think? Would the podcasts you listen to have more value if they followed the three tips above? Leave me a comment.
