This idea is more than a catchy title. Try this experiment – today – or the next business day you can make this happen.
Clear your morning or afternoon calendar.
Think of three people who work for companies (or are service providers themselves) who are somehow connected to the “business cycle” that you are in. For example – if you are a CPA, you may work in connection with an attorney. Your client may work with an attorney before or after working with you – or at the same time. You are not an attorney, so knowing several you can refer can be extremely valuable. Note: I am suggesting that you have several folks to refer to, not just one exclusively. Caveat: If you are in a unique situation with many referrals from one provider regularly coming your way, and vice versa.
Back to the three people. Have you thought of them yet? I’d even start with 5 and “disqualify” a couple who don’t quite connect with you, or don’t understand the premise of collaboration, referral, and abundance.
Spend the morning or afternoon working on opening the door to three amazing referral relationships where you can collaborate, refer, learn from, and happily support someone or some business on.
Think big! Consider connecting to someone who might seem much “bigger” or more successful than you.
Have your three yet? It may not be as simple as you think, but create some time for this – because…..
These three connections could create many opportunities for you – rather than a constant search for new prospective clients – search for those synergistic relationships that allow you to work on bigger projects, connect with more people, and succeed quicker.
Think win-win. Even bigger than that, think win-win-win. Triple wins are amazing. This is where not only you gain new business, but others do too. Contact me if you are not sure what I mean. It is a fundamental idea within building relationships that is as powerful as compound interest is to finance.
