A couple of years ago, my entire university (faculty, staff, students, everybody) worked through the Gallup ‘Strengths Finder’ survey. In our office, we mapped out all of our strengths both as individuals and as an office. It really helped us to form strategy for addressing those places where we weren’t strong or adept. The Strengths Finder data is so helpful that even today, two years later, interviews conducted with internal candidates still address what their strengths are, according to the survey.
I was browsing through my files yesterday and ran across my survey results. Figured it’d be interesting to post them here. I wonder what the "typical" business blogger’s strengths are… It’d be interesting to see a broad survey among that group.
Anyway, here are my strengths according to the survey… My strengths fall into two categories: Impacting and Thinking.
The Impacting strengths are described thusly: Impacting strengths are also interpersonal strengths. But these strengths enable a person to influence or impact other people. People with strengths in this area are powerful. They can directly influence individuals, groups and even entire organizations.
The Thinking strengths are described as follows: The Thinking strengths involve both information processing and perception. The theme of the thinking strengths is that they enable people through their thinking process to make sense of the worlkd around them, to learn and to plan. People with strengths in this area are good at reflecting and contemplating. They tend to be life-long learners.
My Impacting strength (yeah, only one) is Positivity:
People strong in the Positivity theme have an enthusiasm that is contagious. They are upbeat and can get others excited about what they are going to do.
My Thinking strengths are:
People strong in the Input theme have a craving to know more. Often they like to collect and archive all kinds of information.
People strong in the Intellection theme are characterized by their intellectual activity. They are introspective and appreciate intellectual discussions.
People strong in the Learner theme have a great desire to learn and want to continuously improve. In particular, the process of learning, rather than the outcome, excites them.
People strong in the Connectedness theme have faith in the links between all things. They believe there are few coincidences and that almost every event has a reason.
So that’s me. Anyone else out there have Strengths Finder results to share?
