We have a new example of creativity and innovation in action – Kyle MacDonald, of One Red Paperclip. If you haven’t followed the story, take a look at his blog as he has video and photos to walk you through it. But if you don’t want to take his word, then try one of hundreds of media outlets who have picked up the story.
When a blogger makes it onto CNN or the cover of your local paper – you know this has become “mainstream” news.
I commend Kyle for reaching his goal – to start with one red paperclip and make a number of trades until he traded for a house. The story of how he got to the house trade is interesting, and I’m sure the journey was as cool as the final destination.
How great to see someone be unique and different, unlike all the “blue thumbtack” websites that will probably sprout up now. It’s like the idea of eBay, Amazon, and yes, even Starbucks (when it was a single store selling coffee beans, and a man had a big vision for it)
We can all take Kyle’s lesson in innovation and apply it to our businesses and our sales – what is your red paperclip moment today? I expect that there will be a new descriptor for innovation now. Post your ideas.
