Michael Hodgson, owner of Consol and a recognized housing industry expert, testified that green was the future for an industry being crushed by the housing crisis. The House Small Business Committee heard that by 2010, 10% of the housing market could be environmentally friendly, if the incentives and education are there.
Hodgson was representing the National Association of Homebuilders, whose members build 80% of all the housing in the U.S. The Association wants legislators to extend and increase the $2000 energy efficient credit, currently available to homebuilders, but close to expiring. They also want a national standardization of green building practices.
