Most places I visit on the ‘net these days are screaming that email marketing is dead because of the power of blogs. It’s the great debate — email or blog, email or blog, email or blog.
Well, get over it. I think the whole thing is a bunch of baloney. Email is now mainstream and I don’t think it’s going anywhere soon. You need to use both mediums to get the word out in this busy world.
Here’s a case in point. Have you seen less spam come your way lately? Those people know that email is still a very viable communication and marketing tool. They’re not stopping and neither should we.
I do believe there will be some ebb and flow in effectiveness and we may face more challenges at getting our email messages to arrive, but I surely don’t think people should stop sending newsletters or marketing via email.
Here’s another case in point. The print and mail newsletter and direct marketing business (via USPS) is still a whopping industry that makes millions every year. The naysayers screamed very loud a few years ago that regular mail would just dry up and go away. It hasn’t.
So to those who are depending on just one medium — just blogs or just email — to get the word out I say “Have at it. That leaves more prospects for the rest of us.”
