Let be begin by saying there is no “best” blog platform. What’s best is subjective and really depends on you and your preferences.
Two of the most popular platforms for small business are Blogger and Typepad. Blogger is free and very easy to set up. It only takes about five minutes. The interface is easy to understand and the help files are generally excellent.
However, you get what you pay for with Blogger. It lacks some of the essential elements found in other platforms. For example, in order to use photos you have to download and install another application called Hello. Again, not hard to do, but it would be nice to have that feature already built-in.
Typepad is head and shoulders above Blogger in terms of its application for business. There is a small cost involved with use of the software, but the price is inconsequential in that it’s as low as $4.95 per month for the basic version.
Typepad’s interface is not quite as intuitive as Blogger, but won’t take you long to learn. It does come with image upload built-in, as well as a number of other bells and whistles you won’t find on Blogger, like category archiving.
Here’s my recommendation. If you’re new to blogging and just want to stick your toe into the water, then give Blogger a try. Millions of people use it every day. You might find it serves your needs well.
I like Typepad personally. Once you’ve gotten up to speed on blogging, I’d recommend you move from Blogger to Typepad. It’s just a better application for business purposes, in my opinion.
