Once you decide on a promotion, test it out. That’s right, it’s fairly easy to discover which promotions pack the most bang, according to a white paper published by demandware, a company specializing in e-commerce.
First, say the pros at demandware, organize your customers into relevant groups such as price sensitivity, product class, order size and number of visits. Then, perform A/B testing — a comparative form of testing that allows you to test several promotions types against a typical offer to determine where you get the best results.
"This can be as simple as offering a 20-percent discount vs. a 30-percent discount to determine discount thresholds," the demandware white paper states.
