Do you watch the news and want to be tapped as an expert for a news story? Guess what? It takes a little work but you can do it without a full-time publicist.
Start compiling a list of local folks and regional folks who use “expert” spokespeople in their stories and pro-actively reach out to them and let them know you’d be happy to be included in their file of spokespeople to call and tell them your topics you can cover. You can do this easily in an email or by snail mail. Just remember, whatever reporter you contact, always cite a recent story you saw them do a great job on and cite how you might be a good spokesperson and on what topics.
