One of the biggest challenges in a home-based business is taking charge of your time. When you work at home, there are often things tugging at your attention. Furthermore, working from home usually means you don’t have a boss breathing down your neck and watching your every move.
This might sound great in theory, but it does mean that you truly have to ‘be your own boss’. That’s something which is a challenge for some. Here are some quick tips for managing your day in your home-based business.
Decide what hours you will work and schedule them ahead of time. How much time can you allocate to your home based business tomorrow? Plan that ahead of time and commit that time to a schedule. Make sure it’s realistic or you’ll find yourself not sticking to the schedule.
Plan and Prioritize your Tasks. Often it’s easy to get overwhelmed by all the things you have to do. A home based business can mean having to perform many different functions in your business. Make a daily to-do list along with your schedule. Prioritize the tasks to be accomplished from most important to least important. Make sure you cross them off when you accomplish them! That way, at the end of the day, you can see a list of things accomplished.
Reduce or Eliminate Distractions. Distractions come in many forms and some we can’t plan for. But eliminate or minimize the ones you can identify. For example, turn off or mute that cell phone. Resist the urge to do household tasks while you work as in “Hmmm…I think I’ll do a load of laundry”.
A big part of self discipline is time and task management and this is a key element to home based business success. What about you? Do you have any tips for home-office time management to add?
