One of the most underrated forms of transport is the bus. Now I am not talking about the street rattlers that belch their way around many big cities of the world. The long haul coach has seen improvements that touch on comfort and even luxury.
TIPS FOR RIDING COACHES
Plan your trip in advance. Bus companies like Greyhound and Translux offer travel passes which allow you to hop on and off at an unlimited number of stops over a time period.
Booking ahead of time (at least 30 days before your trip) could earn you a discount on your ticket price. And don´t forget to enquire about discounts for kids, students, senior citizens and off-peak specials.
Coaches have jumped on the bandwagon. You can earn points with some bus companies such as Greyhound´s "Get-A-Round Club´ that offers free membership and free tickets after a certain number of points are accumulated. Contact them on (011) 249 8914 or e-mail firstname.lastname@example.org
Translux has a similar set up. Contact Translux on (012) 315 4357.
WHEEL IT: Bring your wheelie with you on the bus or you may find yourself lugging bags around bus depots.
SHUTTLES: Magic Bus offers a variety of shuttle services to cater for door-to-door trips and charter hire for pre-booked group transfers. It also provides a party shuttle if you´re looking for transport to a social function. Check out their website: www.magicbus.co.za.
