In the spirit of Thanksgiving my post today is to tell you to take some time to realize how hard you have worked this past year, and how grateful you should feel for being the working mommy that you are.
Yes, you read this correctly. Pat yourself on the back for Thanksgiving, if only for a few moments.
I know that Thanksgiving is about telling what you are grateful for, and by all means, do this as well! Make a list; write down everything that you are happy about in your life: your kids, your husband, your job accomplishments. Even the little things count: the blooming roses in your backyard, the clean house, the browning turkey that is roasting in the oven.
But then take a moment at some point on Thanksgiving day to reflect on how grateful others are to have you in their lives. You work hard managing a home, a career, and a family. Oftentimes we plug along and we forget how hard it is to manage one thing properly, much less three or six or twelve, but that´s what working mothers do: They manage a variety of things and rarely stop to congratulate themselves on the job well done.
So today, just for a few moments, stop and congratulate yourself on the accomplishments that you have made during this past year. Did you get a raise? Did you have a new baby and return to work? Did you learn some new recipes, take a class, or stick strictly to getting some me time?
As you list all of the things that you are grateful for, don´t forget to pat yourself on the back for a job well done. Being proud of yourself is not a form of conceit-it is a form of self-pride, and you should be proud! In order for us to move forward, we have to know where we have triumphed, so take some time to reflect on that this Thanksgiving season.
Now, go out and gobble down some turkey!
