First, welcome to Sam and Peter who have decided to take this challenge. See prior posts to learn of the challenge to take one sales action a day to increase revenues by year’s end. Lots of time to join in with us.
There are some great ways to do strategic drip mailing campaigns – in fact you might want to look into this strategy for long term pipeline filling – but for today’s challenge, it is about doing a quick mailing or launching an e-mail campaign with an offer of one service or group of products that you may not have focused on before.
Remember, others don’t often know about all of the services and products you provide. It is your job as a seller to remind them – and you may be surprised with what they say, such as, “I didn’t know you did that service as well” – and then they suddenly know exactly who you should contact, or they may purchase more from you themselves.
I like postcards. Here in the U.S., a postcard costs only 23 cents to mail – what a bargain! You can print up your own postcards or what I like to do is purchase inspirational cards from Compendium. They are a great resource not only for postcards, but books, thank you notes, magnets, and other fun items. Definately check them out.
Keep your message brief: We have three Vicuna scarves left this season…. come in and feel the extreme luxury of rare, Andean vicuna – it’s softer than soft.
Note: this is not a commodity item, these are real scarves I heard about at a luncheon yesterday from the manager of a Nordstrom store – they have two of these scarves to sell at $595 each. By the end of the luncheon, at least one was spoken for, because the right buyer had heard about the offer.
Pick your target audience – those who have opted into your emails or those who you have mailing addresses for.
Set aside enough time to get this done – or have an intern, college student, high-school student or colleague help you get it out the door – today, if possible. Or tomorrow. In the words of Nike: Just do it. In one week, call those contacts – not to ask if they got your postcard, but rather just repeat the same offer to them. They will almost always let you know that they did receive the postcard. I find it irritating when someone asks if I got their mailing. While there are many things we may not understand in life, mailing and recieving a piece of mail is a pretty sure bet.
I’ll be doing a postcard mailing to let people know about this sales action contest.
Even if you don’t do this particular activity – because it won’t work for what you are selling, or you just did a mailing – take some sort of action toward your goals and post that in the comments of this blog.
