India is now the 4th hottest market for green buildings in the world. In 2003 there were 6000 sq m of green building space, by the end of 2008 there will be 304,000 sq m, a 5000 % increase. The Indian Green Building Council is estimating that the Indian market for environmentally friendly building materials will reach $4 billion per year by 2010.
The construction of these eco-friendly buildings isn’t sequestered to any particular industry either. Realizing that any extra upfront costs can be recouped in five years, government buildings, hospitals, airports, schools and offices are all following a green plan.
