I’ve stressed the importance of building alliances with other professionals in your industry, including your competition. And in the interest of presenting you with the most comprehensive and most diverse collection of advice and experience, I’ve decided to don a new hat: host. I am going to change up the format of the next few posts – I’ll be interviewing a number of remarkable individuals, all of whom I hope will shed new perspective on a range of issues I’ve written about.
One such individual is John Calvert, a representative from the United States Patent and Trademark Office, or USPTO. Many inventors are fearful of the USPTO, convinced that the office is trying to prevent them from receiving the intellectual property they deserve and need. But this fear is only due to the unfamiliar and the unknown. In actuality, the USPTO is incredibly helpful. John will help explain how the USPTO exists to serve you, the independent inventor.
Another industry professional is Mike Collins, the CEO of BIG – the Big Idea Group. Mike will discuss the exciting direction open innovation is taking, and how you can capitalize on new opportunities, such as the growing number of large corporations that are approaching independent inventors for product ideas.
I can share but one perspective – my own. I hope interviewing these individuals and others like them will shed light on different, yet equally effective paths and plans. There is always an alternative option, an alternative way to achieve success. I’m also excited to experience what it’s like to sit in the opposite chair, to ask questions rather than answer them. I think I’m up for the challenge.
Please feel free to recommend people (or types of persons) you’d love to see interviewed, and offer some constructive criticism!
