The 3 Little Pigs is a piece of propaganda, likely propagated by the concrete industry, because straw is one of the best things you can actually build a house from. Joe Vidal and his company, Lone Wolf – Straw Home Concepts, are showing people how it’s done. Straw-bale houses can actually withstand more wind, and are virtually fire proof because the materials are so dense. They use 25 to 40 percent less heating and construction costs are 25% less then traditional building materials.
You would never look at a straw bale house and think it was made of straw, it looks like any other house on the block. Joe Vidal is currently living in one of his creations in Kingston, Ontario, and is opening it up for a public viewing on Earth-Day.
