It´s political sign season again, here as in most communities in the USA. As in years past I find myself ignoring most of the yard signs touting the next Governor, Mayor, Senator or Councilperson.
But I don´t ignore them out of political disinterest. I ignore them because they do nothing to grab my attention.
This year, one political lawn sign stands out from the rest. It gets my attention while others don´t even register in my memory.
While every other lawn sign promoting their political candidate is some variation of blue, red or white, this one is black and yellow.
It´s the only sign I´ve seen that´s black and yellow.
Even better, these are the colors for our local high school teams. (I doubt if that´s a coincidence.)
So, every day as I drive through down the thoroughfares in our town, one candidate stands out. One candidate remains in my memory.
The one with the black and yellow signs.
I doubt it cost more to do this. All it took was a little creative thought. The real secret was to break out of the box of tradition. Step away from the pack. See if there´s a better way instead of doing things like everyone else.
So, I congratulate this candidate. And I´ll thank him at the polls in November. Because he had the creativity, the brains and the moxie to do things a little different.
When you make plans to promote your business, remember this clever candidate. Do something different. Get noticed by stepping away from the crowd. Do this and more people will see your message. More people will have the opportunity to hear what you can do for them.
And that´s what effective marketing is all about.
