Yesterday I spoke at an event one of my local Chambers put on focused on selling. (note: if you want a GREAT event idea for YOUR local chamber, email me and I’ll tell you all about Rev Up Your Sales).
Someone talked with me afterwards about her fear of rejection. She is paralyzed to make calls with big fears swirling around her head.
For anyone who feels this way, I believe you really need to focus on your foundation – what you say to yourself, how you feel about selling, learn how to build your confidence, and really tackle these feelings head on. If you don’t, you probably won’t be successful.
Then focus on the value that you provide. Be clear on it and only talk to others about products and services that you truly believe in – those that add value to others and the world. Without this, passion for what you do will not happen.
Take baby steps. Start with five contacts that you KNOW. Look for referral opportunities. Once you are more comfortable, move to five contacts that you don’t know. Reward yourself by making these steps, and post your ideas on how you tackle those deep feelings.
