The secret recipe for HoneyBaked Ham-Bone Stew? Well, we didn’t get that out of HoneyBaked Ham’s Rock Hill, South Carolina, franchisee and Chairman of the Franchise Advisory Board Grady Love during his live interview on The Franchise Show, but we did get a great discussion on the fundamentals of operating great stores from product development to customer service — and this from a 10-year franchisee with 30 years of business experience.
Grady’s hands-on-advice was shared with Greg Horos and Melissa Rosen from LOCALI, a new “green” neighborhood market concept in Los Angeles, who stayed on the line to combine the germination of their new concept with the organized structure of HoneyBaked Ham that has a history of more than 50 years of brand development. And here’s the surprise — it all works on the same principles — great products, great people, great execution, and great neighborhood marketing!
So, okay, that applies to food, but I’m considering a personal service business: no physical stores, and no physical products. How does this apply to me? Well, let’s talk to Deb Evans, President and CEO of COMPUTER EXPLORERS with locations in 32 states and internationally about that.
Here’s a CEO who has the benefit of starting at the beginning just like Greg and Melissa. After all, she started as an instructor, and worked her way to the top of the company — she must know something. She does, and it revolves around the same ingredients Greg, Melissa, and Grady were talking about: product, people, execution, and neighborhood focus.
So whether your “product” is intellectual, or falls off the bone at the holidays, Deb Evans says it’s really a question of focus: keeping your eye on the fundamentals with a dogged determination. Execute, execute, execute. Goes right along with location, location, location if you’re building with bricks and mortar, but holds true if you’re building in cyberspace, too.
