There’s an article floating around the article-sphere by Liz Folger about Getting Your Husband to Back Your Home Business. Ms. Folger is the founder of BizzyMoms.Com and her articles are always great to read.
Among other things, it raises a very important point about planning a home-based business. It’s important to have the support of your spouse or domestic partner. If they can’t actively support the business for whatever reason (no time, have a job of their own, etc), they should at least lend their moral support. Not having that level of backing can kill a home-based business before it starts or at least make for some very rough going.
Ms. Folger’s article is talking about a wife needing to get a husband’s support, but it can work the other way too. I know a guy – I’ll call him Sam – who really wants to start a home-based business and has asked me for guidance on various occasions. However, his wife – I’ll call her Teri – is dead set against it. And sadly in the two years that I’ve known them, it’s never gotten off the back burner for them.
In this blog post, I talked about getting the whole family involved, but I think it’s especially important that your spouse or domestic partner at least be willing to back your ideas and goals for your home-based business.
