We recently sponsored an adult (men’s) soccer team in our local city. 20 guys or so now wear our logo on their backs 12 times year in front of 100 or so people. And in addition they (at least those 12 guys) will know the NationLink Wireless® name for a long time. All this and free beers at the games for only $700. What ad could I buy for that money and get that kind of exposure. Answer… None. Now, we sponsor at least 50 events a year in our business and we always ask three questions when we do – and you should too. 1. Can we “exhibit” at the event (I mean setup a tent, send people there to mingle, pass out literature and trinkets)? 2. Can we get a list (and I mean emails is possible) so we can continue to market to the attendees after the event? And 3. Can I get a “Thank You” letter for our brag book (this lets us show the level of community support long after the event)?
We have found two ways to spend marketing dollars that are most effective for us – sponsorships and direct mail (more about that later… It’s a science). So, look for ways to “sponsor” events in your community; it’s good for you and it’s good for your community…. And its overall a great return on your investment.
Oh yea, if anyone is running in the Country Music Marathon this weekend- looks for us; we are a sponsor and will be right at the finish line.
