So you’ve decided that speaking is a strategy you want to pursue to market your business. I bet you can already see the cash flowing into your business from all the new customers you’ll be adding to your list.
Well wait just a minute.
Speaking to market your business isn’t something you jump into head first without a little planning and preparation to help you make this strategy a success.
First, remember the purpose of your marketing talk is to find people who will set appointments with you. The audience is there for you and wants to learn exactly what you can do to solve their problems so you want to avoid mistakes.
Two of the biggest mistakes most beginning speakers make are 1) providing too much information or 2) not providing enough information. Your talk should solve “some” problem, not all problems.
To begin planning your talk, brainstorm a list of problems your clients have brought to you in the past. Then narrow your list down to three to five issues that get the most requests.
Create a talk around each of those issues by highlighting what your client’s problem was and how you solved it. Real stories help real people see themselves. And that’s what will make them want more.
Do your talk right and customers will be beating down your door.
