Social Media is the latest way to increase business, customer count, and profit, all the while extending brand recognition and notoriety. And although Social Media is impacting the Internet with sites like, MySpace, Twitter, Facebook and hundreds of other techniques and functions, many that are probably just thoughts in the minds of some guy in his garage, Social Media is hardly new.
It’s just different as many of us know it. And, I am sure that every restaurant owner has engaged in it while probably never thinking about it.
Yesterday I attended a Social Media conference in
I disagreed. Every bartender in the industry knows more about social media than anybody in any high tech firm in the country. As it once was, at least. Think about it- buying a customer a drink- promoting your business, your brand, your hospitality- offering a complimentary appetizer or dessert or all functions in Social Media.
When I explained to Beto that each time a bartender bought a customer the third drink, social media was suddenly engaged. It works very much the same way today except we have alleviated the actual customer interaction.
The point is that we can’t stop promoting and the new Social Media is something that we need to explore to promote our brands, built our business and increase profit. All the while this will keep your name in front of the public and your customers.
Benefits of today’s Social Media compared to that of yesterday’s is that today you can reach customers quickly, reasonably, and efficiently without having them in your restaurant. Nothing excites a customer more than having the owner or bartender buy them a drink or receiving an offer they can’t refuse. Now you can do that by using the Social Media networks that are so important.
But just as Beto looked at me in awe when I explained the uses of Facebook, you may be in the same situation. But there is a solution. I would imagine that each of your staff have a Facebook, Myspace, or Twitter presence. Next weekend at a pre shift meeting have a contest, but instead of giving away a gift certificate for the most desserts or appetizers sold, reward the employee who announces your restaurant to their Social Media friends, and gets results.
The results may be in the form of customers coming through the door, links to your web page or a party inviting their local Social Media friends. Whatever the reward is it will work more than doing nothing as Social Media pages are the future to your future.
