My sister in law is visiting, and at one point during her trip she pulled out a large blue plastic bottle with a straw and filled it up with water. She then told us that her company, which is a major, multi-million dollar company, has made the decision to go as green as possible.
We often think of things that we can do as individuals to ‘go green’. For instance, purchasing bags that can be reused when grocery shopping means less plastic is being used, and purchasing all natural products that can be used to clean the house rids the air, and ground, of certain toxins.
So the idea of turning a company green, especially one that is as large as the company for which she works, really excited me, and the fact is, if a large corporation with offices all over the world can turn green, think of what small companies can do.
If you want to check out what some large companies are doing to go green, read this article on CNN.
In the meantime, consider the changes that you can make in your company, whether it is one that you own or one that you work for, that will help out the environment. As with anything, start small; each thing that you do makes a difference!
-Get rid of plastic water bottles and instead use reusable bottles for your water.
-Use a coffee mug instead of a styrofoam cup.
-Turn off lights when you leave a room.
-Shut off your computer at the end of the day
-Carpool, ride a bike or take alternative transportation to work to cut down on commuting
