Let’s face it – there are only so many RSS feeds, so many Websites, so many social networks you can be part of as a business owner or entrepreneur. I run my own business, like other AllBusiness advisors here, so I’m constantly juggling how to complete that task list every day, too.
The question I receive from other business owners and clients is perhaps the same one you have – where’s the ROI in all this online marketing stuff?
My answer: Anita Campbell.
That answer comes from Anita’s site: (one of my favorites) – Small Business Trends. She is one of the web’s most focused entrepreneurs, in my opinion. Day in and day out, she’s out there thinking of her readers and community first. I won’t list out all her awards for best website here, but it wins frequently. Anita and team answer questions, from experience, on how you get value out of all these new media (web 2.0, social media) tools.
It stays focused on growing a business. Her guest speakers and experts are not hawking some program or ebook every other sentence. No doubt, there are products and services promoted from her site, but it has the best balance of content to ads.
I plan to write about some of the cool areas of Anita’s site in future posts, but one to point out here is useful to business owners trying to get the word out. If you haven’t done any online press release work (ala David Meerman Scott and his New Rules of PR book LINK), SmallBizTrends has a press release section worth using.
Anita and her small team don’t have the time to interview all the cool new products and services out there, so she came up with the idea of allowing site visitors to upload a press release for SBT to review. She says, “If it is a legit release (not spam) and relevant to small businesses and entrepreneurs, we post it in a special section. When published they look similar to a blog post, allowing others to comment on the release. We’ve had quite a bit of traffic going to those individual releases and a number of reader comments on them. It’s a free service and I urge others to take advantage of it.”
If you’ve been trying to spread the word, this little known service may help you get some new business from an online press release.
One final nugget, I asked Anita what online tool (outside of her own site) did she find powerful and valuable and she shared this one: www.expressocorp.com an online collaborative Excel? spreadsheet. It’s pretty cool.
