I am a strong proponent of using payroll services like ADP, Paychex, and Intuit’s payroll add on to QuickBooks.
Nearly 20 years in banking have taught me that when a business slows or stops remitting their payroll taxes, trouble starts with the Internal Revenue Service (IRS). I spend half of every week working with businesses trying to find ways to get the IRS out of people’s lives. So when I start working with a new client the first thing I require is that they use a payroll service to start getting all future 941 taxes paid in a timely manner. For small businesses, this can be expensive.
Recently Intuit, the company that provides the most widely used accounting software in small business today – QuickBooks, has announced upgrades and discounts to their integrated Quickbooks and Payroll service. Starting at $9.95 / per month for a 3 employee company, there is simply no reason why all businesses don’t use a service that handles their 941 taxes for them.
