When I published my book "Telemarketing Success for Small and Mid-sized Firms" in September 2004, I never realized how much my life would change. Becoming a writer was a dream come true but I had no idea what to do next. So the first thing I did was host a book launch party to introduce it to the masses. It was also a good way to gage my audiences´ interest. A small venue by most book launch standards I invited 60 people with an actual attendance of 48. I had about 30 books on hand for sale and sold out within about an hour. A huge success right out of the gate (for me at least). Then I realized that I could apply my knowledge of telemarketing, promotion, sales and marketing to generate more sales. So the first thing I did was"?¦
ï?? Printed direct mail post cards to announce the release of my book and give ordering information. This was a great way to introduce not only the book but also my firms´ services to a whole new targeted audience. The point is to keep your name in front of as many people as possible. Which is another lesson. The more services you have to offer, the more business opportunities you´ll open up for your self.
But I soon realized that it wasn´t enough to simply drop info in the mail and hope the prospect purchase the book. So the next thing I did was"?¦
ï?? Created a press release to announce the book to the media as well as my targeted audience. This would offer more detailed information about my book including purchasing information, and contact information from my publisher. Press releases have become so powerful in promoting my book that I create a new one every time I develop a new service for my firm.
ï?? Email campaigns have become standard fare with most businesses and so the next stage was to develop an effective e-mail campaign to introduce my new book and services to my target audience.
ï?? Since I had already planned to do a book tour I decided that the book would be better received in more business related venues than bookstores. So the next step was to create a workshop that would have several purposes, promote my book, introduce my services and educate the business community on my cold calling techniques and pick up a few new clients to along the way. I conduct these workshops at in-house coaching sessions as well as various SBA/SBDC locations throughout the U.S. It has been a very successful campaign netting me not only new clients but book sells as well.
