No where is it said in construction that size is important. Revenue does not equal profit. We have a unique cost structure to our business and it allows us to be any size we want.
It is no great insight on my part when I say smaller companies are more profitable as a percentage than their larger brethren.
In all our business evaluation work, we first ask the owner about his goals and objectives. His or her answer certainly tempers the evaluation. For instance, if the owner states that his goal is to keep the same size company but, increase its profitability that certainly is means that growth activities are not important but, controlling, monitoring and selection of work are.
There is no sin in being a small or large contractor just as there is no sin in being a general contractor, CM, or a specialty contractor.
