Some lucky retailer attending the Gift, Jewelry & Resort Show at the Denver Merchandise Mart later this month will win a free store makeover by Barbara Crowhurst, who does these consultations over the telephone.
In her January newsletter, Crowhurst recommends that retailers set daily sales targets. If you calculate your average sale to be $20 and your goal is to increase sales by 15 percent, then you need to add another $3 per day, she explains.
To accomplish this, Crowhurst suggests placing a $3 product close to your cash register, then training your staff to introduce the product to each customer as they pay.
“At the end of the day,” Crowhurst says, “it’s a numbers game. This will work.”
No harm in trying.
