A couple of posts ago, I declared that Warren Buffet and Bill Gates needed our help to save the world. Since I wrote that post, I have been more aware of companies doing things to make the world a better place. One of the best examples is Sears. Like other businesses, they have had many of their employees called up through the national guard and reserves for the Iraq War. By law, Sears (and every other business) is required to keep a job open for those employees when they return. Many businesses do only that much and nothing more which places a huge burden on employees and their families. Military pay, needless to say, is a lot less than they are making in the private sector.
Sears, though, goes above and beyond the letter of the law. They are keeping their employees whole with salaries, benefits and bonuses. This was first rumored on the internet and checked out verfied on Snopes here.
Whenever I get a chance, I am going to give Sears and their subsidiary Land’s End a chance for my business and let them know that I appreciate the way that they are standing by their employees.
