Today we will talk about 3 ideas that will help anyone create a solid foundation in selling. You can follow along the blog or jump in on a telecall where the topics are further disected each week.
Becoming a professional seller is a journey – not a two day sales training session, or reading a book or two on selling. We learn over time, through trial and error; preparation and lack of, plus all the things that “happen” along the way.
No matter WHAT you sell – or to WHOM, there are some fundamentals that you must master prior to successfully marketing and selling your wares/ products / services. That’s why I like to talk about the fundamentals, or foundational issues surrounding selling. If you don’t buyoff and believe in these – you may have little luck in selling.
Some people master these through osmosis – or just naturally – and I think that is where some confusion lies about whether sales professionals are born or developed. For the record, I believe they are developed, assuming they have this solid foundation. This is where sales training and coaching comes into play.
What do you need for a solid foundation?
1. A core belief of confidence in yourself
2. A core believe of confidence in your product/service – and the value that it provides
3. A core belief that selling, or offering your products and services is valuable and should be to others.
Why these three points, and not others? Without confidence and belief, you won’t succeed. Many sales professionals have succeeded with just these ideas – even when the product or service may have occasionally fallen short. These professionals made it right though. They started with a strong foundation and built their selling “house” solidly and soundly. How solid is your foundation?
