If you have a home based business or are planning to start one, chances are you will need a website. Today let’s take a look at SiteSell aka Site Build It! (SBI) (yes the exclamation mark goes with the name).
SBI offers a web hosting plan that includes domain hosting. At first glance, the price tag seems to be higher that most plans. It’s about $300 per year and unfortunately that scares a lot of people off straight away. It’s easy to find a hosting plan for far less than that – often less that $100 per year. So how does SBI justify $200+ worth of additional value per year?
The answer is in the level of the service and their philosophy. The first thing to say about SiteSell is that it’s not just another web hosting service. It’s an entire online business resource center. A huge emphasis is placed on education with SiteSell via a vast library of articles and well written guides. In fact, when you start up at SiteSell, the first thing you do is go through a 10 day tutorial which takes you through planning your business, doing your keyword research, providing a value niche, etc. Their system goes far beyond the usual help files you get with a standard web host. Their philosophy is more on building an online business rather than just building a site.
The SiteSell forums are also a huge resource. These are content rich forums with lots of experts sharing their ideas and experience. SiteSell is perfect for anyone wishing to start an online business and might not be sure where to start. SiteSell’s system will literally take you by the hand. The biggest problem with this content laden system is information overload, but there are always ways to deal with that. And while there are some technical articles, most of the articles and forum posts by moderators are written to be understood by anyone.
Another thing that justifies their price tag is the templates. You can use your own HTML if you so choose but if you are not comfortable with designing your own website, SBI offers a wonderful variety of modular templates. ‘Modular’ meaning you can take a template and easily tweak parts of it so you aren’t stuck with the template exactly the way it comes.
SiteSell is ideal for home based businesses where you have a service or a content site of some kind. It is especially useful for people in Network Marketing home businesses. It is less ideal for a product based business (such as a drop ship home business) as it’s not well suited for mass product uploads and downloads.
Tomorrow we’ll take a look at some of the downsides of SiteSell SBI.
