For many, we do it daily – feeding the homeless, offering jobs to the destitute –to give then hope for their future. And, as one of the most giving industries in the world we have previously visited the plight of the devastated whenever the need calls.

Here is a quick list of ten tips on how to publicize and begin a donation drive.
1). Formulate a date to have he dining out donation night.
2). Contact restaurants in your immediate area to join the cause.
3). Develop some guidelines for the donations – percentage of sales, the proceeds from appetizers, dessert, or whatever you decide. Make sure the amount or percentage is agreed upon and spelled out for other participating restaurants.
4). Develop a promotional flyer, a press release and an ad.
5). Use table tents, posters and email campaigns to your customers and mailing list to publicize the event.
6). Contact your local newspaper to run the press release and ad promoting the event. Ask the paper to run the ad as a donation.
7). Suggest to your waiters that they contribute a portion of their tips.
8). Consider developing a Haitian styled menu to serve for the evening.
9). Contact your restaurant association to entice other restaurants to participate in the evening.
10). Choose a reputable organization to handle he donation and publicize how much the event raised.
