New Year’s Resolutions are popping up like crumbs under the kiddie table. Unfortunately, most of them are swept away just as quickly.
No matter your own resolutions, however, there are concrete steps that you can take to assure that you keep them.
LifeHacker has a wonderful Top 10 Tools for Sticking to Your New Years Resolution. Addressing the many ways that we fail in our annual promises, these top ten tips suggest webapps to help, tips from the uber-productive celeb bunch (Jerry Seinfeld and musician Ryan Adams), and more.
My favorite tool is the long-standing, low-tech S.M.A.R.T. guidelines of resolution. To make your goal a realistic one, be:
- Specific, e.g. “Run 2 miles, three times a week,” NOT “Work out more.”
- Timely, i.e. give yourself a realistic (see above) and concrete timeline to complete your given resolution.
