In Home Based Business Websites often Replicated Sites, I talked about how some home based business opportunities offer a free website but that it’s usually a replicated site. A perfect example of this a network marketing company called MyWireLessRep. Everyone gets a website that looks like MyWirelessRep” target=_blank>this one.
I mean, there’s nothing wrong with the website; it’s attractive, functional, and well designed. Except for one problem: There’s too many of them! Other than a few fields in the contact page, most of it is non-customizable. That means it’s going to be difficult if not outright impossible for MyWireLessRep people to differentiate themselves using just this kind of site.
The way to work with this sort of arrangement is to get your own website somewhere else. Get a website where you can add content yourself. A website that is ‘distinctly you.’ This is the way you can stand out from the crowd in a situation where you are given a replicated site to work with. You can use your own site to build content pages, capture visitor information and generate leads. The end destination can be the replicated site. The replicated site might also serve as a authenticator to refer leads to. But don’t rely on these sites alone to do the footwork for your network marketing home business.
In fact, the smart MyWireLessRep people have done exactly this. If you Google “MyWireLessRep” you will see mostly other content sites appear in the results and relatively few of results are replicated sites (because Google tends to ignore them)! So a replicated site in itself is not a bad thing, but don’t expect it to pull the leads and clients for you. Attract the leads and prospects from your own website and send them to your replicated site only when they’re ready to sign up or as a point of reference.
