Quilting is an old craft form, but did you know it’s making a comeback? This is evidenced by the number of suppliers I’ve come across that sell and distribute handcrafted quilts. Debbie Foster of New Berlin, Texas has made it a post-retirement business from her home. Says Mrs. Foster:
I needed something to do when I retired, and you might as well do something you enjoy. My grandmothers were hand quilters, and I started sewing when I was 12 years old. I have always been interested in it. I took a quilting class 12 years ago, and I was hooked. And while hand quilting is quaint, it’s not the way to do the larger scale production required for a home-based business:
The sewing machine is equipped with a laser tracking light that allows Foster to do precision stitching or to follow a pattern. “I used to do them by hand, but I decided that was for the birds,” she said.Do you or someone you know have a passion for quilting? If so, consider turning it into a profitable home-based business. If you do and need a place to start selling try eBay or Etsy.
