I need to rant and vent.
Do you remember when USPS Priority mail first came out? You paid an extra couple dollars and your envelope got to the recipient in 2-3 days. Nice.
Have you noticed this is often NOT the case any longer? I send a lot of things Priority Mail and increasingly, I am finding that the packages take LONGER to arrive than I would expect regular mail to take.
This past week, I had a couple examples of this. I sent Priority Mail envelopes (in USPS Priority envelopes, so there was no confusion) on Saturday, October 7th. They arrived to their destination on Wednesday October 18th. Sure, they were going across the US from west coast to east coast, but come on, that’s bad.
A couple weeks ago, I sent an envelope Express – this is the USPS’s overnight service – and they said it would take 2-3 days to get there because the person lived in a smaller town near New York City. So Express is now taking the time that Priority used to take. And Priority service is no different than regular mail service – and in some cases it’s worse.
FedEX and UPS are more trustworthy, but not as convenient to get to from where I live. And they are much more expensive. I guess you get what you pay for.
Why can’t the USPS do what it promises?
