I have decided that I have been a bit too reserved lately. Editing my More Space chapter (about breakthroughs) and polishing my book proposal for Two Weeks to a Breakthrough have reminded me what I need to be doing to make big things happen.
I need to be playing big. Full out. Not reckless, but on the edge.
Two of the breakthrough techniques I swear by and have seen work miracles are:
– Make big requests – I have talked about this one before.
– Share what you´re up to with others so that you have a better chance of enrolling people in your vision and goals.
(note: Other techniques include being of service, fresh research, asking the right questions, and there are many more)
So, that´s my mantra for the week – Share & Ask And when I say ask, I don´t mean like a selfish greedy kind of ask, but a playing big kind of ask.
I sent a letter to President Bill Clinton asking him to write the Foreword for another book proposal I am working on. Crazy, you say? Hey, the topic is right up his alley and it does not hurt to ask. I´ll let you know how that goes.
I am considering other potential Foreword authors for my other proposals. Let me know if you have any ideas, or know someone who knows someone.
I posted my book proposal for my book about my trip to New Mexico called, Chile Pepper High: A Travelogue of Enigmatic New Mexico, on my other blog, Chile Pepper. If you like the Southwest or are thinking of going to New Mexico, you might enjoy reading it. The link is on the upper right corner of the blog. (There’s also a killer hot wings recipe in the latest post!)
I just got an assignment to write an article for Leader to Leader about reinventing middle managment. It´s a great publication and I am thrilled to contribute.
Here´s the concept statement for my Two Weeks to a Breakthrough proposal. Tell me what you think! Does this topic interest you?
Concept Statement (From the book proposal)
Two Weeks to a Breakthrough: How to Zoom Toward Your Goal in 14 Days or Less
Our hopes and dreams are starved for attention and may die. Meetings, multiple projects, daily office brushfires soak up our time and energy. The pressure to make a secure and safe living is immense and can dim the strongest passions. Millions of busy professionals have put their goals aside. Some crave a promotion, some want to reinvent their functions, some want to learn a new profession, while others want to become world-class leaders.
All they need is a little nudge.
Two Weeks to a Breakthrough: How to Zoom Toward Your Goal in 14 Days or Less offers smart professionals a process that will enable them to kick start (or restart) their goals into high gear. Based on coaching and facilitation techniques proven over Lisa Haneberg´s 20 years as a management development professional, Two Weeks to a Breakthrough will be the first book dedicated to showing managers and leaders how to produce a breakthrough in results in 14 days or less.
Two Weeks to a Breakthrough will help readers refine their goal and will offer daily practices, techniques, and exercises designed to identify and seize new possibilities. Each chapter will highlight examples and success stories of people who have used the techniques. Readers who follow the two-week plan will create results beyond what they would have thought attainable. Haneberg´s Breakthrough Model includes techniques to enhance focus and practices to increase action toward goals.
Two Weeks to a Breakthrough is unique and timely because it addresses a serious problem facing many of our brightest business minds.
