Sustainability was the topic in Philadelphia yesterday when the state’s treasurer, Robin L. Wiessmann, led a forum called “Conversation on the Economy.”
Wiessmann and her guest, former Vice President Al Gore, discussed sustainable investing before an audience of business and community leaders.
Wiessmann has implemented initiatives that allow the treasury’s investment decisions to be accompanied by an economic analysis of considerations such as sustainability.
Gore expressed his belief that the sustainability challenges of the planet can be overcome and that business and capital markets are best positioned to address the issues.
“But we must set higher expectations and hold businesses accountable when they don’t fulfill their corporate responsibilities,” he said.
