“Who Would Have Thought?”
Below you’ll find a 10:12 video of my cousin’s wife, Georgeanne, known in Northern Mississippi and around Memphis as the Original Grit Girl. Watch the video and she’ll tell you how she built a business out of machinery her husband, Freddie, rebuilt on a whim. She didn’t start out with a business plan; she didn’t use social media (other than a simple Web site) but she’s a hard worker, and recognized an opportunity when she saw it, is persistent as all get out, and demonstrates loyalty to her customers, Oh, and one more thing, she has a husband smart enough to haul some old machinery out of the weeds and rebuild it:-)
All attributes that enhance the customer experience.
“They’re opening up a new health food co-op in Memphis…”
From a booth in a parking lot, a business was born when a chef walked up and asked her to make 30 pounds of corn meal.
“I’m a little fire engine…”
Soon she was cold calling restaurants with samples of corn meal and it wasn’t long until she branched out into grits.
“Friendship and loyalty brought us back.”–Jason Nicholas, chef, and one of her customers
Georgeanne built relationships with her customers who quickly learned she had a quality product that was dependably delivered. She got out of the business for a time, but when she returned, many of her customers picked right up where she had left off.
But here, let her tell you her story herself:

This is also proof that sometimes you can stumble into something that opens up a whole new career. If you’ve got a hobby or a talent and you’ve been reluctant to turn it into a career, perhaps Georgeanne will provide you with the inspiration you need.
By the way, her husband, Freddie is a successful realtor in his own right. If you need a home, farmland or a hunting lease just about anywhere in Mississippi, I’m sure Georgeanne wouldn’t mind if you contacted him through her Web site. He knows the Mississipi Delta and Northern Mississippi like the back of his hand.
