Small Business Q & A
I have set up my very first affiliate program and I’m not sure what’s the best way to pay affiliates. Any suggestions for *best practice* or a routine which works for you?
Congratulations on getting your program set up! It’s fun and a great way to grow your business.
Set up a schedule to pay once per month by PayPal. It’s less hassle than issuing checks and good for your affiliates too. Make a habit of paying by a certain day of the month (e.g. by the tenth) so your affiliates can get into a routine. Pay the entire amount that is owed.
I don’t know what you’re selling, but I believe that affiliates should be paid no matter how small the amount is — some programs don’t pay until the amount reaches at least $50. I disagree. I believe that any amount owed should be paid to the person every month. Why? Because it motivates them to work even harder to get a better commission payment the next time. And that’s what will make your program a success.
