What’s all the hoopla about? Well, it’s about HoopLa!, a gift store in Portage, Wis. More than a store, HoopLa! is a business helping to bring people back to downtown Portage.
Owned by Susan Weyh, the store is featured in the “Innovative Downtown Businesses” series published by the University of Wisconsin’s Center for Community and Economic Development (CCED).
Opened last year, HoopLa! stocks greeting cards, invitations, wedding and shower supplies, fudge, gourmet chocolates, trophies and plaques.
The store, with it’s bright purple and yellow logo attracts customers from the nearby communities of Rio, Westfield, Poynette and Pardeeville, according to the CCED.
Portage, population 9,728, sits between the Fox and Wisconsin rivers in south central Wisconsin, acting as a “portage” between the two rivers.
