Some people are waiting for the economic recovery for those job opportunities to return. Others consider taking matters into their own hands but never really do anything about it. I spoke to someone the other day who said something like: “well I really want to start my own home business, but I think recovery is right around the corner”.
When economic times are bad, more people become interested in a home business. And in this last recession, that trend certainly continued. But are they interested in a home based business for the right reason? Many of them simply want some extra income to tide them over until “things get better”.
The problem with this approach is that a genuine home based business will take time and commitment. It may take many years to build. You must be prepared to nurture and build your business over time. While there are ways to build a home business on part time hours, you need to have a ‘full time’ and ‘long term’ mentality to make it work over time.
Other people are driven to a home based business because they are tired of the roller coaster ride of the hiring and firing process. They are tired of the frenzy of building and having to rebuild a career every few years. They decide they want to build something permanent.
So which one are you? What is your reason for starting a home based business? Are you in it for the long haul or are you just looking for something temporary?
